The GAR post members were Veterans of the American Civil War of 1861-1865. The painting is documented in the meeting minutes dated June 1894, page 23 this establishes the provenance and the link to the donor. The donor information is not disclosed for privacy reasons.

Donations were documented solicited by the post members and documented in the GAR meeting minutes with a members vote of thanks to the solicitation committee.

The buildings furniture, fixtures, and pictures were insured for $500.00 on the page 140 of the same volume of the GAR Post meeting minutes.
