Florida art history awards

Art history awards for 2020, 2021, and 2022 because of COVID are temporarily suspended  The Art History Awards Selection Committee will meet to review nominees for the Fine Art History Awards for Nebraska and Florida. Please submit your nominee via email to info@JGSART.com. Your submission should include the nominees full name, mailing address, telephone number, year for nomination and email. Please provide a brief description of the nominees art accomplishments, biography and outstanding art contributions. Everyone with an interest in art is welcome to participate in the nomination process. Your nomination will be acknowledged via email.

FLORIDA ART HISTORY AWARDS BY YEAR:

2019

Elaine "ADEL" Cummins - artist and historian for Jackson Square Artists in New Orleans, LA for her contributions to the artists and the fine art community.

Carroll Dickerson - photographer. vice president and gallery manager for South Lake Art League, Lake County, Clermont, Florida for his continued contributions to the arts in Florida.

2018

David Guess - photographer, artist. author and illustrator, Groveland, Florida. The author of children's books. Photographing the ever changing water and sunsets on Lake David.

Lisa Harris - contributions to South Lake Art League, president and community liaison for South Lake Art League, Lake County, Clermont, Florida. Keeping the Arts alive in  the community through her artist recruiting efforts and work with the community.

Gary Monroe - photographer, author, historian and educator. The author of numerous academic and historic books about the art communities, arts and artists throughout Florida.

2017

Erin Brecheen Baumann - Montverde, FL. for her encouragement and many years of contributions to the arts by her coordinating and creating programs for the Dreamplex Annual Gala.  

Angus Brecheen - Montverde, FL for his courage, creative vision and fine art showing the vision of a person with Down syndrome to the world.

2016

James "Jim" Lunnon (1897-1954), Artist, Miami, Florida, USA - Posthumous award to daughter, Penny Lunnon Fleeger. For his portrait work capturing many persons of importance in New York and Florida. Specifically, Will Rogers in NYC-Exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery, Washington DC and his portraits of the Florida Miccosukee Native Americans (Seminole). The "Father of colored animated cells" responsible for the artist chemicals used in animated cells at Fleischer Studios.

Emma Collin Sears Marsh (1871-1960), Artist, Geneva, NY; Mount Dora, FL, USA Posthumous award to Lake and Hills Garden Club, Mount Dora, FL. For her botanical watercolors of Florida wild flowers; encouraging associations of like minded Floridian's to capture and preserve nature's beauty.

Janice Mitchell Senninger, Artist, Art Advocate and Art Philanthropist, Clermont, FL, USA. For her valued contributions to the arts, dedication to South Lake Art League and the art community of Clermont, Lake County and Orange County, FL. Her paintings are influenced by the people, places, wildlife and the beauty of Florida. 

James J. Sextro, Artist and Art Advocate, Winter Garden, FL USA. For his valued contributions capturing the beauty of Orange County with his graphic style and the joy of Floridian colors and influences in the City of Winter Garden.

Luke "SOS" Sosinavage, Graffitti Urban Artist, Winter Garden, FL USA. For his valued contributions capturing the urban landscape through graphic line, abstract vision, exploding color and high-end graffiti art. A "Winter Garden Wisteria Artist", a group of Florida artists, who paint exclusively "plein air" by the city fountain.

2015

Glen Brecheen, Montverde, FL USA;  for his valued contributions to the community by supporting and sharing his vision of fine art and the art of Florida. His knowledge of Lake County and South Florida parks, wildlife, back roads, hidden beauty floral and fauna assisting others in their creative mission. He acknowledges and references the history and the ever changing tropical environment of Florida.

Harry Gray, Clermont, FL USA;  for his valued contributions of his fine art for auctions to support fine art events in Florida. The artist hand painted t-shirts for volunteers to wear. He also donated a series of his Florida Landscapes to assist with the funding for the  “Youth Art and Culture Fest” and the “Downtown Clermont Art Festival”. He gives his time, creative skills and encourages other aspiring artists to create and produce art. Harry is a “Champion for the Arts”!

LACE Medical Services, LLC, Clermont, FL USA; for their valued contributions to the community supporting their vision of fine art and art Florida. This support came through sponsorship of the  “Youth Art and Culture Fest” and the  “Downtown Clermont Art Festival”. LACE encouraged art in the community by provided needed Financial support. They understand the importance of creative events for children and the community. LACE Medical Services, LLC are true “Champion for the Arts”!

Larry Oskin, Clermont, FL, NY USA;  – his valued contributions to the community supporting  fine art and art Florida. The president of Art Beautique, Inc. and Marketing Solutions, Inc. utilized his marketing and photographic skills to capture the “Youth Art and Culture Fest” and the “Downtown Clermont Art Festival”. His skill in photographic documentation of these Florida events preserves them historically. Larry is a “Champion for the Arts”!

Ron Smart, Clermont, FL, OK USA; – his valued contributions to the community supporting  and sharing his vision of fine art and art Florida. The executive director works for the  Clermont Downtown Partnership with the “Youth Art and Culture Fest” and the  “Downtown Clermont Art Festival”. He embraces the creative process and understands the importance of creative events for children and the community. Ron is a true “Champion for the Arts”!

2014

William Bernoir, Mascotte, FL USA; CA, OH, National and International – his valued contributions to the community and for the children in Florida through his art lessons, the entertainment community for his varied talents and his vision of colorful expression. He embraces the creative process and understands the importance of creative events for children. This includes exhibitions of fine art in Central Florida. 

Eleanor ‘Ellie’ Hofer, Ft. Myers, FL, USA; CA, and ID – her creative ability in the digital fine art world, the use various graphic design via models and modes of creativity to stimulate the minds children and adults alike. The marketing expertise to open doors and provide introductions for fine art professionals in the area of Fort Myers, Florida on the West Coast of Florida.

James Pollack, Pierre, SD, USA; Korea, Vietnam, National and International – his dedication to document history through art of the “ordinary soldier in Vietnam”. This was not limited to the art, but included publication of his journal, various combat artist articles linked with the fine art exhibitions internationally, specifically the “US Army Soldier-Artists in Vietnam”. He was dedicated to documenting and sharing his experiences not only through a sketch pad, pen, ink and watercolor, but joining with other South Dakota and American artists of the Vietnam era for exhibitions of their works. The combat art is held by the National Museum of the U.S. Army, so the Vietnam era art and history is not lost.
