US Marine Corps, First Issue of Uniforms. Folk Art

Scene is historic documentation of the harbor at Port Plate, Early May 1800
Artist is unknown and date completed is unknown.

The oil on canvas was viewed under ultra violet light and raking white light with no disclosure of a date or artist signature. The painting was reviewed in the frame.

Because of the age of the painting all photographs and scientific test were noninvasive. The painting was not removed from the frame during the review process.

Size with frame: 39 inches height and 46 inches wide
Size of exposed canvas front only in frame: 28 ½ inches height and 35 ¾ inches wide
Size of frame (moulding) covering canvas on all four sides is approximately 1 ¼ inches.

The oil on canvas remains in the original frame, since purchased July 1927. The painting and frame will remain together.

Frame identification: There is a partly readable label located on the back that reads. Sammons, Clark & Co, 197 & 199 South Clinton St, Chicago, IL, Mouldings. Please see the image close-up page.
